Social media plays a big role in the success of the XFL. Why? Because it was not available in the past!
Just call them XFL 2.0 "The Reboot"
One Feb. 8, the XFL began the reboot of their reputation and kicked off their "inaugural" season. This came one week after Super Bowl LIV. While the XFL has it's own historical demons to battle, it will now be faced with a new battle - How to prove they will not suffer the same tasteless fate of the AAF; which lasted less than half a season.
With a 10-week season that ends with a championship game in April, the XFL has already proved one thing...
They came to Stay and Play with the big dogs!
But still...five games into the season there remains doubt as to whether or not the XFL will survive, there is the comparison with the AAF, yet and still the whispers of the competition with the NFL and the ever-present memories of their one and only 2001 season. We all have regrets and we have all tried something that didn't work. This is sort of like the parent telling the younger brother about the big brothers accomplishments; you will always hear the comparisons until you grow up and realize the sun and the moon are not the same.
What will it take for the XFL to announce Season 2?
Television ratings, revenue, the "people" must embrace the quality of play from start to finish, but above all...the XFL has to get the fans on their side...and keep them there.
How tall is the hill?
Very tall, but it can be conquered. Each time I have been on the sidelines of the Houston Roughnecks home games, the fans never sit, the roars are endless and the player-to-fan engagement is embraced. It seems (on the outside looking in) that the hill for startup football leagues is rocky and littered with junk from the past...but that has never stopped the man on the mountain from climbing; eventually he gets to the top.
